Our Mission

Recetas offers a safe and welcoming space for mujeres who feel a desire to connect with their spirituality, traditions, and community in a way that feels authentic to them.

 

We are the first comunidad of U.S.-born or raised Latinas challenging the status quo and writing our own recetas for what it means to be Latina in the U.S. At Recetas, we celebrate the richness and diversity of our cultures while redefining our versions of Latinidad, on our terms. We welcome you to come to Recetas to grow and flourish personally, professionally, and spiritually– juntas.

Meet our Founder


Dr. Patty Jiménez 


Growing up, Dr. Patty Jimenez, founder of Recetas, always felt like there wasn’t a space where she could belong. Born in Mexico but raised in San Diego, California, she was often told that she was not Mexican/Latina enough, she was too americanized. In mainstream culture she never fully felt as if it resonated. Raised a Roman Catholic, she loves her tradition but was fascinated by the wisdom and richness of other spiritual traditions. She was always searching for someone to help her navigate these worlds. At the age of 18 an Indian Catholic priest introduced her to meditation and it was there that she discovered her contemplative spirituality. 

Driven by the mission to be the influence she herself needed as a young Latina woman, she launched Recetas to provide a safe and welcoming space for all Latina women on their journey to self-love, acceptance, and spirituality to gather and feel like they have a space to belong.

Patty spent 27 years working in Catholic ministries and has two masters in intercultural ministry and  theology and a doctorate in ministry specializing in Latinx Theology and Ministry. From personal and professional experience, she knew that there were many Latinas who felt conflicted between following the cultural traditions and spiritual practices of their parents and finding their connection to their own. She is a spiritual director and currently training as a wellness coach.

Patty strives to create a community that shows Latina women that they can define for themselves what it means to be Latina in the U.S. and how to connect with their culture, religion/spirituality, and community. 

Latina women are often caregivers who put the needs of others before their own- sometimes at their own expense. She hopes to show women that it’s perfectly okay to follow their own dreams and  invest in themselves. In fact, committing to loving themselves and investing in their own future, can positively impact future generations.
