Being kind doesn’t have to be a big deal. You don’t need to be sacrificial or a martyr to be nice to others. Being kind doesn’t cost anything more than a smile or remembering your manners. It’s easy to develop a kindness habit.
Here are some suggestions to help you get started.
Smile
Sonreir is one of the easiest and most effective ways to show kindness to others. It’s a simple gesture that takes no effort, but can make a huge difference in someone’s day. Smiling is contagious, and can lift the mood of those around you. It’s also a great way to show respeto, make connections, and spread positive energy. Not only does it make others feel good, but it releases endorphins in your own body and lowers your stress levels.
Reach out
Reach out to those you haven’t seen in a while. Let them know you’re thinking of them by sending a message, card, or flores. Show concern for others going through difficult times by checking in on them to see if they need any help. Also, make sure to look out for elders in your comunidad and check in on them to see if they need anything.
Offer some hugs
Giving a hug to your partner, children, or friends for no reason can be a great way to show kindness. It can often be difficult for kids and adults to get hugs from others as they get older, so it can be very beneficial for them to receive a warm hug. It will not only make them feel good, but it can also lift their spirits and bring joy to everyone involved.
Show up
If you often find yourself too preoccupied to attend social gatherings or events, take a moment to reevaluate your priorities and make more compassionate choices. Show your seres queridos and friends the gift of your presence and encouragement.
Be a kindness role model
Reflect on the people who have been kind to you, like a teacher, boss, or mentor. How have they made an impact on your life? Modeling kindness towards your peers, friends, and family demonstrates how important it is to you. Show them that kindness is something you prioritize.
Give some random compliments
Take the time to recognize when someone is doing a great job or looking their best. A simple compliment can make someone’s day, so don’t be afraid to show your appreciation for their hard work and effort.
